Christianity:
Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?
Quite a few people will agree to this title, and for many years I had the same objection to the faith, which I thought, was 'ridiculous dribble'. Many people object to it, and say that it is dreary and uninspiring. I had not been to many services, but when I did do, I thought it was very dull. I had a few great services sat behind the concrete pillars though.
Secondly, it seemed to me to be untrue. When we were made to read the New Testament in the bible in R. E. (Religious Education) at School, I remember thinking that this was too 'good' to be true. The miraculous events in the bible seemed untrue to me, and I could not think of any way possible, scientifically, for them to happen in real life.
Thirdly people think it's irrelevant. How can something which happened 2,000 years ago and 2,000 miles away in the Middle East, could have any relevance to my life in twentieth-century Britain.
Christianity is far from boring, it is not untrue and it is not irrelevant. On the contrary, it is exiting, true and relevant. Jesus said, 'I am the way and the truth and the life' (John 14:6). If he was right, and I believe he was, then there can be nothing more important in this life than our response to him.
